Ethics Expo - Photo exhibition "Clandestine minerals"

Mantua – only one week to visit the exhibition between schools and the Loggia del Grano

Photo exhibition of Minerali Clandestini, created by Chiama l'Africa Onlus and organized by Mantova per la Pace (Network of associations and citizens) - with Arci Tom and the associations belonging to Mantova for Peace: Arci provinciale, Associazione Colibrì, Centro Bruno Cavalletto, Cooperativa Il Mappamondo, Coordinamento soci Banca Etica, Emergency, eQual, Ethics Expo, Gruppo La pace ci piace, Libera, Libertà e Giustizia, Movimento Nonviolento, Namaste Ostiglia, Officina dell’intercultura, Università Verde Pietro Toesca. Under the patronage of the Municipality of Mantua.

The exhibition's focus is on minerals extracted in some areas of Africa illegally and finally exported illegally. It is a triangulation system created between Africa, Eastern countries (especially China and Thailand) and Western countries, where they are used fot the production of high-tech instruments, mainly cell phones and computers, but also medical and military equipment.
The Great Lakes region in central Africa is a rich territory, full of minerals: coltan, gold, tungsten, tin and cobalt. These minerals are extracted by people, including children and women, who are subjected to a semi-slavery regime controlled by armed groups. They work in between mines to earn about one dollar per day. The purpose of the exhibition is to give an awareness of the production of our new technological devices. Often, they which produced with human exploitation that is no longer admissible.
